Ignition interlock pricing and costs FAQs:

Q. How much does it cost to lease an ignition interlock?

A. Getting a DUI is expensive, but getting an ignition interlock installed doesn’t have to be. The pricing is considerably low cost and affordable. Intoxalock ignition interlock leases start as low as $65 per month for court or state mandated Legacy devices. Final pricing depends on your state’s requirements for technology and reporting, and how long you will need the equipment. Voluntary (non-DUI related) leases start at $49.95 per month.

Q. Why do court or state required ignition interlocks cost more than voluntary ignition interlocks?

A. Each state has its own requirements for the type of technology and reporting functions needed on ignition interlock devices. Many times the state will require more advanced technology than is available on our voluntary devices. There is also a cost of maintaining your records and reporting them to authorities in order for you to regain your driving privileges included in the monthly lease price. Voluntary programs are less expensive because advanced technology or reporting are not required.

Q. How do I know if I qualify for the voluntary pricing?

A. If you can answer “yes” to any of the following questions, you might not be eligible for voluntary equipment. Please contact our sales department at (888) 283-5899 for assistance in determining eligibility.

  • Have you been arrested for a DUI, OWI, or DWI?
  • Are you currently waiting for a hearing or a trial in regards to a DUI, OWI or a DWI?
  • Have your driving privileges been suspended or revoked due to an alcohol related incident?
  • Have you been told by the state that you can wait out your suspension but if you want to drive you will need an ignition interlock device installed?
  • Have you been told that you can drive your company vehicle but not your personal vehicle without an ignition interlock device?

Q. Can I just buy an ignition interlock device instead of leasing one?

A. No. All ignition interlock providers that are state approved must lease their equipment to meet your state’s calibration, record keeping and reporting requirements.

Q. Why aren’t the specific costs of ignition interlock devices posted online?

A. One of the key complaints we hear from ignition interlock industry customers is how difficult it is to find and understand ignition interlock pricing information. At Intoxalock, we are committed to help you understand all of the costs associated with your ignition interlock before you sign your lease. The cost of the ignition interlock will vary by state based on the technology, reporting requirements of your state and how long you need your interlock. Call (888) 283-5899 to have one of our state experts review your situation and find the lease parameters that will get you back on the road as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

Q. Who has the least expensive ignition interlocks?

A. Most of the ignition interlock lease prices are comparable, if they are meeting state standards. Watch out for any “cheapest deals” that seem be too good to be true. They may not be a state approved vendor that can help you to regain your driving privileges and meet your state’s requirements.

Q. Does Intoxalock offer any deals or promotions on ignition interlocks?

A. Most of the ignition interlock lease prices are comparable, if they are meeting state standards. Watch out for any “cheapest deals” that seem be too good to be true. They may not be a state approved vendor that can help you to regain your driving privileges and meet your state’s requirements.

Q. Am I responsible for all the costs associated with installing an ignition interlock device or is there funding help available?

A. In most cases, you are responsible for all costs associated with installing and maintaining your ignition interlock device. In some states, funding may be available for those who meet state determined guidelines. An Intoxalock sales representative can help you determine whether you may be eligible for state financial assistance in your area.

Q. If I complete my state required ignition interlock lease term and continue on a voluntary basis am I eligible for lower voluntary pricing?

A. Yes, if your state requirement has been fulfilled, you can extend your lease as a voluntary customer. In some cases, your equipment may need to be switched out for a different device type in order to benefit from the full voluntary program savings and the $49.95 per month lease rate. An Intoxalock customer service representative can help walk you through the options and make this an easy transition.
